Starbucks Mexico Announces New Payment Methods for Starbucks® Rewards Program

• Starbucks® Rewards is the loyalty program that rewards frequent Starbucks customers for choosing Starbucks stores and products.
• Through its “Stars for Everyone” program, Starbucks® Rewards members will now be able to pay and earn Stars without the need to reload a Starbucks Card.
• Customers will be able to pay with cash or bank cards and get one Star for every $20 pesos of purchase.
• Customers will also have the option to keep their current payment method, where they get one Star for every $10 pesos of purchase when using a physical or virtual Starbucks Card.

Mexico City - As part of its commitment to elevate the digital customer experience, Starbucks Mexico – managed by licensed business operator Alsea – today announced an update to its Starbucks® Rewards platform, diversifying payment methods and learning into technology so that program members continue to receive benefits including free food and beverages.

Starbucks® Rewards is the company’s loyalty program developed to enhance its digital relationships with its customers, rewarding them in a more personalized and convenient way. Starbucks® Rewards is a purchase-based program, offering members Stars based on the amount they spend on eligible purchases. Once a customer has created an account, they can scan their Starbucks Mexico Rewards App and earn Stars toward free items.

Previously, the only way to earn and accumulate Stars required a physical or digital Starbucks Card, which had to be reloaded with credit in order to make a purchase at any of the 780+ Starbucks stores in Mexico. With the launch of the “Stars for Everyone” program, new and existing Starbucks® Rewards members will be able to use different payment methods – including cash and bank cards – to earn and accumulate Stars, without the need to pre-load a Starbucks Card.

Under the current scheme, members who pay with a Starbucks Card can earn one (1) Star for every $10 pesos spent in-store and Starbucks Mexico Rewards App and redeem them for benefits such as their favorite drink or meal. Through the “Stars for Everyone” introduction, payments made with cash and/or bank cards without reloading will earn one (1) Star for every $20 spent.

Starbucks® Rewards offer two tiers: Green and Gold. The Green level will have advantages including gifting a complimentary drink the month of a customer’s birthday, refilling Coffee of the Day free of charge, and enjoying exclusive promotions and events. By accumulating 200 stars, customers are upgraded to a Gold level, and will receive Green level benefits as well as other exclusive benefits such as a Gold level welcome bakery item, a free Starbucks beverage or bakery item for every 100 Stars accumulated, 15 stars on each anniversary and a digital gold card.

Ways to start or continue earning Stars:

To earn Stars and have them credited to the customer's associated account, in-store purchases must be made through the Starbucks® Rewards app, either by scanning the code or swiping a Starbucks Card before paying.
