Mexico City – Residents across Mexico are experiencing an even cozier place to gather. As part of its “Back to Starbucks” strategy, Starbucks Mexico – operated by Alsea – continues evolving the coffeehouse experience through updates designed to create warmer, more welcoming and community-centered spaces.

Mexico is the latest major market introducing elements of Starbucks global coffeehouse uplifts, following hundreds of rollouts completed across the U.S. in New York, Chicago, Southern California and more. The updates are part of a broader effort as Starbucks works toward uplifting more than 1,000 coffeehouses across the U.S. and Canada in 2026 alone.

In Mexico, Starbucks is bringing this vision to life through an ongoing focus on remodels, customer experience enhancements and locally relevant initiatives designed to strengthen comfort, connection and community.

This strategy also reflects the long-term commitment shared by Starbucks and Alsea following the recent renewal of their partnership agreement, reinforcing a shared vision for the continued growth and evolution of the brand in the region. Today, Alsea operates more than 1,950 Starbucks coffeehouses across 12 markets, underscoring the scale and strength of the partnership.

An evolution of the Starbucks coffeehouse experience designed to bring customers closer to what they love most about Starbucks: great coffee, craft, connection, and community.

Starbucks Mexico’s plan includes more than 80 coffeehouse renovations in 2026 – in cities including Mexico City, Monterrey, Acapulco, Ensenada and more – reinforcing its commitment to elevating the customer experience.

Customers visiting uplifted Mexico coffeehouses will experience:

  • More – and cozier – seating, including couches and lounge chairs that invite customers to stay awhile.
  • Warmer colors, textures, and layered designs that create a relaxed, welcoming feel.
  • Locally-inspired details, including neighborhood‑inspired art and historical photography that reflect neighborhood character.
  • A redesigned espresso bar offering a closer view of the craft behind every beverage.
  • Improved order flow, including dedicated space for customers ordering ahead in the Starbucks Mexico app.

“Our coffeehouse uplift designs for Mexico bring together comfort, warmth, and a strong sense of place. From inviting seating and layered materials to locally inspired artwork, every element is designed to create a welcoming space to gather. The redesigned espresso bar also offers a closer view of the craftsmanship behind every drink,” said Jose Pozo, director of Coffeehouse Development & Design, Latin America and the Caribbean.

A Global Investment – with Mexico Piloting for Latin America and the Caribbean

Coffeehouse uplifts are a core element of Starbucks “Back to Starbucks” strategy. Before arriving in Mexico, Starbucks completed hundreds of coffeehouse uplifts in New York, Chicago, Southern California and more. By the end of 2026, the company plans to uplift more than 1,000 coffeehouses across the U.S. and Canada alone. Mexico serves as the company’s pilot for coffeehouse uplifts in Latin America and the Caribbean with more markets expected in the coming year.

Mexico’s Neighborhood Coffee Shop Since 2002

Mexico has played a pivotal role in Starbucks history since the company opened its first coffeehouse in the market at Angel de la Independencia in 2002. Today, Mexico is home to over 950 coffeehouses with more than 13,000 partners (employees) proudly wearing the green apron.

Green Apron Service

Complementing these physical updates, Green Apron Service is rolling out across Starbucks Mexico coffeehouses nationwide as a key pillar of the company’s global “Back to Starbucks” strategy, reinforcing Starbucks renewed focus on human connection, coffee craftsmanship and customer experience.

More than a service initiative, Green Apron Service empowers partners with the tools, training and operational support needed to create more meaningful moments with customers across in-store, Drive-Thru and digital experiences. Built around the belief that every cup is an opportunity for connection, the program focuses on delivering warm welcomes, personalized experiences and genuine moments of care while maintaining operational excellence and convenience.

The implementation of Green Apron Service has included nationwide training and certification efforts across Starbucks Mexico coffeehouses, integrating the program into daily operations, partner onboarding and customer experience standards to ensure consistency across every store. Globally, markets implementing Green Apron Service have already seen positive improvements in customer satisfaction, partner experience and operational performance. In Mexico, Starbucks has also seen encouraging progress across customer connection and hospitality indicators since the rollout of the initiative.

“Mexico has been central to Starbucks growth for more than two decades, and these uplifts reflect our continued investment in the partners, customers, and communities that make our coffeehouses neighborhood gathering places. Together with Green Apron Service, we are empowering our partners to create more meaningful customer connections, resulting in enhanced customer experience,” said Raul Sierra, national operations director, Starbucks Mexico.
