Two Decades of Growth & Coffee Culture
Starbucks arrived in Chile on August 22, 2003, with the opening of its first store at Isidora Goyenechea in Santiago. Since then, Starbucks Chile has opened over 155 stores across the market – expanding to 10 regions and 15 cities, from Antofagasta in the north to Puerto Montt in the south.
Over two decades, Starbucks has reinvigorated coffee drinking culture in Chile through the personalization and variety of its handcrafted espresso-based beverages. The brand has evolved together with its customers, implementing innovative drive-thru stores to meet the demands of on-the-go customers, unveiling the region’s first Starbucks Reserve bar in Latin America in 2017 to celebrate coffee craft, and championing sustainable design with the certification of the region’s first Greener Store in 2022. Since then, Chile has earned a total of 10 Greener Store certifications as part of Starbucks global goal to reduce carbon emissions, water usage and waste sent to landfills by 50% by 2030.
“We are thrilled to celebrate our 20th anniversary in Chile and two decades of growth, coffee and connections together with our customers and our partners (employees),” said Claudia Aburto, Starbucks South Cone brand director managing Starbucks in Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay. “Celebrating this anniversary makes us very happy and challenges us to continue building spaces where the community can connect over coffee. At Starbucks South Cone, we have taken delivering the highest quality experience very seriously and, together with our partners, we work tirelessly to improve so that everyone feels our stores are their true Third Place,” Aburto added.
Celebrating Chile with Partner-Designed Anniversary Items
Since its 2003 opening, Starbucks Chile has strived to offer premium products, exceptional service and a welcoming atmosphere in all of its stores, with its green apron partners leading the way.
To celebrate this, the Starbucks Chile 20th anniversary merchandise line was designed by Francisca Luco (@franciscaluco), a Starbucks Chile partner of over two years. Through her illustrations, Francisca brought to life various icons and symbols that represent Chile, such as the mighty Andean condor. Starting September 5, 2023, members of the Starbucks Rewards® program will have the exclusive opportunity to purchase the Starbucks Chile 20th anniversary collection, it will be on offer to the general public starting September 6, 2023, across all stores nationwide.
Also available in stores until September 25, 2023, is the Confetti Cake Pop – a delicate lemon-flavored, bite-sized cake covered in white chocolate and colored sprinkles reminiscent of a celebratory confetti popper. The Confetti Cookie is a delicious vanilla cookie decorated with colored sprinklers to commemorate this very special event.
Finally, Starbucks Chile is unveiling a partner-designed beverage – the Leche Asada Frappuccino® Blended Beverage – which will be available in stores across the market in October 2023. The beverage, designed by a Starbucks Chile partner, was selected from over 30 beverages submitted as part of a nationwide competition. To celebrate, the winner will visit Starbucks Support Center in Seattle to meet partners and have an immersive brand experience.
"We are thrilled to celebrate 20 years of Starbucks Chile with our beautiful merchandise collection and our partner-designed beverage and anniversary sweet treats that honor the spirit of our market and two decades of creating human connections and offering new experiences to each of our customers," said Soledad Fantuzzi, Starbucks marketing director for South Cone. "We thank our partners and customers who have been alongside us on this journey and look forward to continuing to provide a unique experience to each person who visits our stores looking for their favorite beverage or food item," she added.
Elevating the Customer Experience
In addition, Starbucks recently launched the “Starbucks Star Stage” series. In collaboration with the Chilean Society of Musical Authors and Performers (SCD), over the next two months the brand will host intimate music sessions with artists who are shaping Chile’s music landscape. The “Starbucks Star Stage” sessions are taking place at iconic stores and will be streamed via social media.
The inaugural session kicked off with the participation of the renowned local artist Soulfia, an urban music performer. Soulfia recorded a session at Chile’s first and flagship café – the Isidora store, located in San Sebastián 2946, Las Condes. The performance will be unveiled across Starbucks and Soulfia’s social networks on August 29, marking the initiation on an exciting journey featuring surprise artists in the months ahead.
