Starbucks Celebrates Peru’s Coffee Legacy with the Reopening of Cusco Coffeehouse

The coffeehouse reopens as a renewed gathering place featuring artwork inspired by Andean identity with pieces that bring “Herencia del Sol” to life.

Starbucks Peru, operated by Delosi, today announced the reopening of its Cusco coffeehouse with a renewed and uplifted experience for customers. Located in the Plaza de Armas, the coffeehouse reestablishes Starbucks as a welcoming Third Space where history, culture, and community converge in one of the Peru’s most iconic destinations.

In a city that represents Peru’s history, identity, and pride, Starbucks invites customers to connect with the stories behind Peruvian coffee. Machu Picchu – featured on the brand’s Starbucks® Peru whole bean coffee packaging – serves as an emblem of Peru’s cultural heritage and global presence. From this renewed space, the brand invites customers to gather, pause, and learn more about Peruvian coffee, creating a meaningful  bridge between Cusco and those who come to discover it.

Andean Heritage Throughout

The reopening incorporates elements of local identity that transform every visit into a cultural and sensory experience. The artistic intervention is rooted in a deep connection with the Incan worldview, centered around the Chakana, or Andean Cross. This piece – honoring the sacred geometry of our ancestors – comes alive through a vibrant color palette inspired by traditional Cusco textiles.

Within this context, the space features a loom created by Numbra, a tribute to Cusco’s textile heritage: each woven fiber reflects the joy and festive spirit of the Andes, transforming the coffeehouse into a meeting place where modernity and tradition interact. Through this work, visitors are invited not only to inhabit the space, but to experience the energy and warmth that radiate from Peru’s  textile legacy.

Murals that Connect Coffee with Land, Memory, and Sky

The coffeehouse incorporates a pair of murals titled “Herencia del Sol,” created by local artist Zelva Uno, which honors the union between nature, ancestral labor, and gratitude as an act of community.

The first mural is inspired by Túpac Amaru and Mama Ocllo symbolizing gratitude to Inti (sun god), who gives life and nurtures the coffee fruits born from the earth. The second mural continues this offering with endemic hummingbirds from Cusco carrying coffee in their Andean lliqlla as a symbol of care, memory, and shared harvest.

A Coffeehouse Designed for the Experience with Sustainability and Partners in Mind

The space incorporates improvements based on sustainability and efficiency criteria, prioritizing responsible resource use, more conscious operations, and a welcoming experience for the community. Additionally, the store has been developed under Starbucks Greener Store framework – robust standards, as verified by an outside third-party auditor, across eight environmental impact areas such as energy efficiency, water stewardship and waste diversion – reinforcing the brand’s vision of purpose-driven growth.

The in-store experience is made possible thanks to the role of Starbucks partners (employees), who proudly wear the green apron and make this space an authentic, welcoming, and human gathering place for locals and visitors alike.

Starbucks operates in the market alongside its strategic partner Delosi and maintains a sustained growth strategy that will continue throughout 2026. The brand plans new openings in Lima and across the provinces, as well as the consolidation of stores in strategic locations, strengthening its presence in key cities for tourism, culture, and regional development.

In this regard, Cusco plays a central role in Starbucks expansion strategy as a city that connects identity, experience, and community, and that will continue to be a priority within Starbucks growth map in Peru.

With this reopening in Cusco, Starbucks reaffirms its purpose of connecting people through coffee, honoring the value of Peruvian origin and creating spaces that transcend the commercial experience to become meaningful gathering places.
