Starbucks Opens First Store in Santiago to Celebrate Its 5th Anniversary in the Dominican Republic

Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic — In celebration of its fifth anniversary in the Dominican Republic, Starbucks Coffee Company, operated by Green Star Partners in the Dominican Republic, opened its first store in the city of Santiago de los Caballeros, marking a new milestone in its commitment to the market and its communities.
Located on the first level of the Santiago Center mall, this new store not only represents a geographic expansion into the northern region, but also a heartfelt tribute to the culture, history, and natural beauty of the Cibao. With this opening, Starbucks reaches 13 stores in Dominican Republic and 160 partners (employees) nationwide, reaffirming its dedication to quality employment and local talent development.
A Store that Reflects the Soul of Santiago
From its conception, the new Santiago store was designed as an authentic expression of the city and its surroundings. Inspired by the landscapes and warm colors of the Cibao, the space pays homage to the region’s natural richness and vibrant spirit.

At the heart of the store is a custom-made wooden art installation representing the topography of the region. Created with local wood, this piece reflects Starbucks ongoing commitment to locally sourced materials and collaboration with Dominican artisans, creating a welcoming atmosphere with a strong sense of place. Every element of the store was intentionally selected to celebrate local identity and craftsmanship:
- Hydraulic aguayo tiles evoke traditional Dominican artisanal design.
- Woven wicker acoustic panels, handcrafted by local artisans, add both texture and function.
- Cushions made by women artisans from Santiago bring warmth and color.
- Handmade clay pots and linen curtains connect with the land and soften the tropical light.
Art also plays a central role in the store. Santiago-based artist Lizander Jiménez, inspired by the work of Dominican photographer Domingo Batista, created two exclusive murals that explore the relationship between people and nature. One mural features hummingbirds perched on blooming coffee branches, while the other—on the store’s exterior—portrays a coffee farmer drying beans, honoring the dignity of agricultural labor.
Committed to Sustainability: Starbucks and Plan Sierra
Since 2021, Starbucks Dominican Republic has partnered with Plan Sierra to promote sustainable land use, reforestation, and community well-being in the Yaque del Norte watershed. This collaboration has led to impactful initiatives such as reforestation campaigns using guama trees to provide natural shade for coffee plantations, and the planting of over 1,000 trees during Starbucks’ annual Global Month of Good—supported by sales of plant-based beverages and the volunteer efforts of Starbucks partners and local technicians. The Starbucks Foundation has also funded the “Sustainable Family Production Systems” project, which has introduced localized irrigation systems and water reservoirs to support rural families.
In 2024, the partnership expanded with the launch of a new sustainable agriculture project in the Bao sub-watershed. This initiative established five family-owned macadamia plots, intercropped with vegetables, medicinal plants, and edible herbs. Designed to promote economic growth, biodiversity, climate resilience, and year-round food production, the project benefits 30 family members and strengthens local food systems through sustainable, eco-friendly practices.
Looking ahead, Starbucks, Green Star Partners, and The Starbucks Foundation will continue to invest in new projects that deepen their environmental and social impact in the Sierra region—reinforcing a long-term commitment to sustainability and community resilience.
A New Gathering Place for Santiago
More than just a coffee store, Starbucks Santiago is a space where tradition and modernity coexist. It’s an invitation to connect, to feel at home, and to celebrate coffee and local culture. Every cup tells a story—and every visit creates an experience that honors the spirit of the Cibao.

As part of this commitment, Starbucks in the Dominican Republic proudly serves 100% Dominican single-origin Arabica coffee, sourced from the fertile lands of the Cibao region. Freshly brewed and available all day, every day, this coffee offering is a heartfelt tribute to the richness of Dominican culture and a way to share our love for the local coffee heritage with every customer who walks through our doors.
Continued Growth in the Dominican Republic
As part of its continued national expansion, Starbucks, in partnership with Green Star Partners, is set to open new locations in Santo Domingo. The upcoming stores—Plaza Paseo 27 and Patio Embajada—will further deepen the brand’s connection with Dominican communities by providing thoughtfully designed spaces and premium coffee experiences. These openings follow four significant launches in 2024: Lincoln Avenue, Lope de Vega Avenue, Sambil Mall, and Cumayasa.
