Starbucks Mexico Celebrates Over 200 Volunteer Activities in 2024

Mexico City - On International Volunteer Day, Starbucks Mexico - operated by licensed business partner Alsea - celebrates its commitment to creating a positive impact through the more than 200 volunteer activities carried out throughout 2024. These initiatives have benefited various communities and organizations across the market, underscoring the brand’s ongoing commitment to social and environmental responsibility.

Building on this commitment, with the active participation of over 2,300 volunteers and 500 stores nationwide, Starbucks Mexico has focused on key areas such as environmental care, human and youth development, inclusion and diversity, and essential services like access to clean water and sanitation. These efforts aim to bring meaningful changes to the communities Starbucks serves every day.

According to Sarai Jiménez, Director of Reputation and Sustainability at Starbucks Mexico, “Volunteering is an essential part of our approach as a brand. We take pride in inspiring our community to join positive actions that generate tangible change in our surroundings. For more than a decade, we’ve supported hundreds of causes in Mexico, strengthening our social and environmental commitment.”

One of the year’s standout activities was the installation of an AquaTower water filtration system at José Clemente Orozco Elementary School in Toluca, State of Mexico. This project, carried out in collaboration with Planet Water Foundation and The Starbucks Foundation, produces 1,000 liters of drinking water per hour and benefits over 1,800 people. The initiative also included health and hygiene workshops for students and community members.

Other initiatives included celebrating Children's Day with the John Langdon Down A.C. organization, where volunteers distributed toys and spent quality time with the children. Additionally, awareness sessions were also held with the Cerebral Palsy Association, featuring inclusive activities and support in educational and bakery programs. The collaboration with Fundación Alsea A.C.’s "Va X Mi Cuenta" movement stood out for its contribution to combating malnutrition in vulnerable communities across the market.

Since its launch in 2011, Starbucks Mexico’s volunteer program has accumulated nearly 8,000 hours of community work. The program not only invites partners (employees) to become agents of change but also empowers them to choose the causes they want to support, fostering a sense of belonging and genuine connection with the communities.

Partnerships with organizations such as Casa Hogar Margarita, Fundación AMAC, and the Hospital del Niño Poblano, among others, have been instrumental in maximizing the impact of these efforts. These collaborations enable Starbucks Mexico to implement initiatives that benefit a larger number of people and communities.

Starbucks Mexico continues to ensure that its social commitment extends beyond its operations, establishing itself as a key player in building a better future for communities across the country. Its focus on social responsibility reinforces its role in sustainable development and social well-being.
