Starbucks Celebrates 10 Years of Coffee and Connections in Bolivia with Sustainability and Community Commitments

Starbucks proudly celebrates its first decade in the Bolivian market by announcing that its store located at Plaza 24 de Septiembre is now certified under the Starbucks Greener Stores framework.

To further Starbucks Community promise, the Starbucks Foundation awarded $10,000 to the Food Bank of Bolivia, benefiting 200 people.

Santa Cruz, Bolivia – Starbucks — operated in Bolivia by Delosur S.A., a subsidiary of Delosi — today celebrated its tenth anniversary of operations and its commitment to coffee and the connections it has built in the market by announcing new initiatives focused on sustainability and community.

As part of these efforts, Starbucks is proud to highlight its first Greener Store certification in Bolivia, reflecting its dedication to reducing its environmental impact. In addition, through The Starbucks Foundation's Global Community Impact Grants (GCIG) program, the brand continues to invest in projects that make a positive difference in the communities where it operates.

Over the past decade, Starbucks has served more than 6 million cups of coffee in Bolivia, forging strong bonds with its partners (employees) and customers. Each cup represents an opportunity to connect, elevate everyday moments, and strengthen the community. To commemorate this milestone, the brand is launching new initiatives focused on sustainability and community support, reinforcing its commitment to making a positive impact.

Since opening its first store in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Starbucks Bolivia has embarked on a journey filled with memorable and rewarding moments. Currently, it operates seven stores where over 70 partners proudly wear the iconic green apron, connecting with coffee lovers through the unique experience each cup provides.

"The tenth anniversary of Starbucks Bolivia is not just a milestone; it’s a shared pride with our partners and customers. Each cup elevates everyday moments and connects us with the community, reaffirming our commitment to building a more sustainable future in Bolivia," said Cristel Delgado, Brand Manager of Starbucks Bolivia.

Committed to a Sustainable Future

Starbucks Bolivia is proud to celebrate its first decade in Bolivia, aligning with Starbucks global commitment to reduce our carbon, water, and waste footprints by 50% by 2030. This commitment is reflected in the certification of Starbucks Bolivia’s first Greener Store at Plaza 24 de Septiembre, a clear example of the company’s focus on sustainability and respect for the environment.

A Starbucks store is certified as a Greener Store when it meets rigorous standards, verified by an external auditor, in eight areas of environmental impact: water management, partner engagement, energy efficiency, waste reduction, renewable energy, responsible materials, and site and community involvement.

The Plaza 24 de Septiembre store adheres to the design standards of Greener Stores, which include water-efficient faucets that ensure responsible water management. The entire store is equipped with LED lighting, significantly optimizing energy performance. Additionally, Starbucks refrigeration units use eco-friendly refrigerants, reducing the environmental impact. The ice machines also operate with low energy consumption, and together with the water-efficient faucets, they reinforce the company's commitment to sustainability.

"Our goal with this initiative is to encourage other industry players to join the transition towards stores that reduce their environmental impact. The Greener Stores are a clear manifestation of Starbucks commitment to integrating sustainability as a core aspect of our business," said Cristel Delgado.

Small daily actions can lead to significant changes. In Bolivia, the brand is focused on leading initiatives that promote conscious consumption and waste reduction. Starbucks "For Here" is a program aimed at reducing the use of disposable products by offering customers the option to enjoy food and beverages in ceramic dishes and cups in all stores, providing a more sustainable alternative. Additionally, the "Hagamos el Cambio" program encourages customers to bring their own reusable cup, offering a 10% discount on their beverages.

Supporting the Communities it Serves

Starbucks seeks to make a positive impact on the communities where it operates. Through the Global Community Impact Grants program, The Starbucks Foundation awarded a grant of $10,000 USD to El Banco de Alimentos of Bolivia, benefiting 200 people through the distribution of baskets containing rescued food. This donation includes a contribution of $3,000 USD from Delosi to support this impactful work in Bolivia.

The Food Bank of Bolivia rescues food in perfect condition, collected from companies, markets, and farmers, to redistribute it to vulnerable people throughout the country, with a special focus on children.

To complement this donation, Starbucks partners (employees) will be able to volunteer, reaffirming Starbucks commitment to helping vulnerable families and contributing to a more prosperous future for Bolivia.

Looking ahead, Starbucks will continue to make a difference in Bolivia and commitment to sustainability and local communities.
