recognition of Global Handwashing Day,\u00a0Starbucks\u00a0Mexico\u00a0and\u00a0The Starbucks Foundation\u00a0partnered with\u00a0Planet Water Foundation\u00a0to install\u00a0an\u00a0AquaTower\u00a0water\u00a0filtration system\u00a0in\u00a0La Ca\u00f1ada community, located in Cerro Prieto, Quer\u00e9taro.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n<body><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Considered one of the most marginalized communities within\u00a0Quer\u00e9taro, access to\u00a0safe,\u00a0clean drinking water is\u00a0a\u00a0significant\u00a0problem in La Ca\u00f1ada,\u00a0where about 1,290 people live.\u00a0Many\u00a0residents\u00a0are unable to\u00a0consume\u00a0water\u00a0directly from a well without treatment or filtration\u00a0and\u00a0water\u00a0is\u00a0contaminated\u00a0by\u00a0farming waste,\u00a0putting\u00a0the health\u00a0of residents at\u00a0risk.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n<body><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\u00a0new\u00a0AquaTower\u00a0water filtration system\u00a0provides\u00a0clean water to\u00a0over 330\u00a0students of the\u00a0Ni\u00f1os\u00a0Heroes School\u00a0and supports\u00a0at least 90 families\u00a0in\u00a0La Ca\u00f1ada\u00a0with access to safe drinking water.\u00a0Supplying\u00a0up to 1,000 liters\u00a0of clean water\u00a0per hour,\u00a0the tower\u00a0was installed alongside an\u00a0AquaSan\u00a0system\u00a0\u2013\u00a0that\u00a0disinfects\u00a0latrines and surfaces with chlorinated water\u00a0\u2013\u00a0as well as six faucets and three soap dispensers at the bottom of the\u00a0tower\u00a0so that children can wash their hands and maintain healthy hygiene habits.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n<body><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;The AquaTower brings\u00a0peace of mind to us as mothers that our children are drinking clean, disease-free water,&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0explained Blanca, mother of installed the\u00a0AquaTower\u00a0and\u00a0AquaSan\u00a0systems\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0Ni\u00f1os\u00a0Heroes School. Partners also\u00a0taught students about\u00a0polluted water\u00a0and provided educational\u00a0hygiene\u00a0materials\u00a0which\u00a0reinforced safe hand washing practices.   <\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n<body><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The experience was incredible;\u00a0we came together as a team, and we helped the community,\u201d\u00a0said Mauricio Sour, district manager of Starbucks store in\u00a0Quer\u00e9taro.\u00a0\u201cInteracting with the\u00a0students\u00a0through the\u00a0educational workshops\u00a0was very meaningful and\u00a0reflected our\u00a0company&#8217;s\u00a0commitment to strengthening\u00a0our communities\u00a0and nurturing the human spirit.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n<body><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These workshops, which are tailored to the unique needs of each community,\u00a0are part of Planet Water Foundation&#8217;s\u00a0approach\u00a0to hygiene\u00a0education\u00a0for\u00a0students, teachers and community members.\u00a0Although water is\u00a0a basic\u00a0life\u00a0necessity,\u00a0Planet Water Foundation reports that\u00a0access to clean drinking water remains a pressing\u00a0issue\u00a0for\u00a0approximately\u00a0748 million people across the globe.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n<body><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Starbucks,\u00a0we take actions to strengthen our communities by listening, supporting, investing and uplifting in meaningful ways.\u00a0Since\u00a02011,\u00a0The Starbucks Foundation\u00a0has partnered with\u00a0Planet Water\u00a0Foundation to provide access to clean, safe drinking water and handwashing stations for communities in\u00a0Cambodia, India, Indonesia,\u00a0Mexico,\u00a0the\u00a0Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n<body><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In\u00a0early\u00a02021,\u00a0Starbucks\u00a0Mexico\u00a0partnered with\u00a0Planet Water Foundation\u00a0in\u00a0Mexico\u00a0to install\u00a0its first\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/historias.starbucks.com\/es\/stories\/2021\/starbucks-fundacion-planet-water-torre-de-agua\/\" target=\"_blank\">AquaTower<\/a>\u00a0in the community of El Refugio, Aguascalientes.\u00a0This\u00a0has\u00a0prevented the consumption of contaminated drinking water by children,\u00a0to\u00a0enable\u00a0them to go to\u00a0school.
