Tegucigalpa, Honduras<\/strong> – Starbucks Honduras, operated by Premium Restaurants of America (PRA), announced the opening of its first coffeehouse in Tegucigalpa, expanding the Starbucks Experience<\/em> to Honduras’ capital city and one of the market\u2019s most important economic and commercial centers.<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n

Located in Colonia Lomas del Guijarro, Tegucigalpa, the new drive-thru location represents two important milestones: the opening of Starbucks 1,900th coffeehouse in Latin America and the Caribbean and the 100th Starbucks store operated by Premium Restaurants of America, which manages Starbucks operations in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n

“The opening of our first coffeehouse in Tegucigalpa marks an important milestone for Starbucks in Honduras and across Latin America and the Caribbean, as we celebrate the opening of our 1,900th coffeehouse in the region,” said Ricardo Arias-Nath, senior vice president and president, Starbucks Latin America and the Caribbean. “As the nation’s capital and a key economic hub, Tegucigalpa represents an exciting opportunity to deepen our connection with customers in Honduras. This opening is especially meaningful because Honduras is both an important coffee origin and a growing retail market. Together with Premium Restaurants of America, we are proud to invest in the city’s future while creating new opportunities for connection, community, and exceptional coffee experiences.”<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n\n

The Tegucigalpa opening marks Starbucks sixth coffeehouse in Honduras and represents the next chapter in the company’s growth in the market following its debut in San Pedro Sula in December 2024. The new coffeehouse will create 25 new jobs, bringing Starbucks total partner count in Honduras to nearly 125 green apron partners.<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n

\u201cOur arrival in Tegucigalpa reflects our confidence in Honduras\u2019 growth and our commitment to continued investment in the market. This first Tegucigalpa coffeehouse was designed to offer a welcoming and convenient experience, featuring drive-thru service and elements inspired by Honduran culture and craftsmanship. The drive-thru coffeehouse features a contemporary design inspired by Honduras’ culture and craftsmanship. Its distinctive fa\u00e7ade combines concrete and handcrafted brick screens, creating a modern yet locally rooted expression. Natural light and open spaces contribute to a warm and welcoming environment designed to foster connection.<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n

Inside, wood tones, woven textures, and soft lighting create a comfortable gathering place that reflects the warmth and hospitality of Honduras while delivering the Starbucks Experience<\/em> customers know and love.\u00a0 Sustainability is also considered throughout the coffeehouse, with water-efficient plumbing fixtures and equipment selected to support more efficient use of resources. The store also offers reusable For-Here-Ware for customers dining in the caf\u00e9 and participates in Grounds for Your Garden, while store partners have earned their Greener Apron certificate, further supporting sustainable practices in daily operations.<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n\n

For the first Starbucks store in Tegucigalpa, Starbucks is proud to once again collaborate with Honduran artist Dalia Balmaceda, whose artwork also welcomed customers to Starbucks El Pedregal, the first Starbucks store in Honduras. Drawing inspiration from iconic landmarks such as El Cristo del Picacho, the Cathedral of San Miguel Arc\u00e1ngel, the historic city center and the surrounding landscape, the piece reflects the unique character of the capital. By weaving in elements of Honduras’ coffee heritage, Balmaceda creates a meaningful visual story that celebrates both the city and the coffee culture that brings people together.<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n\n

Honduras: A Coffee Origin with Global Impact<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n

As one of the largest coffee-producing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean, Honduras plays an important role in Starbucks coffee journey.<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n

Starbucks began sourcing coffee from Honduras in the late 1990s and continues to showcase the quality and craftsmanship of Honduran coffee through offerings such as Starbucks\u00ae Single-Origin Honduras Marcala and Starbucks\u00ae Honduras Honey-Processed Los Naranjos.<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n

Beyond those limited single origin offerings, today Starbucks also sources and uses Honduran coffee as a component in a variety of our most important coffee blends offered in several markets around the world.<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n

Supporting Coffee Communities in Honduras<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n

As part of its support for the future of high-quality arabica<\/em> coffee, Starbucks continues to invest in coffee-growing communities across Honduras through farmer support and community development. More broadly, Starbucks reached a major milestone in its work to support the future of high-quality arabica<\/em> coffee: donating 100 million coffee trees grown from varieties selected for their performance in climate-adverse conditions. The company has also committed to donating an additional 50 million trees to farms in strategic coffee origins, including Honduras, while continuing to support farmers across coffee-growing regions.<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n

Through The Starbucks Foundation, communities in Honduras have received support through investments in clean water access, women’s economic empowerment, and opportunities for young people. These efforts include partnerships with organizations such as Water1st International, Planet Water Foundation, United Way Honduras, Aldeas SOS, and the Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung.<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n

To commemorate the opening in Tegucigalpa and in recognition of a nonprofit organization nominated by local Starbucks Honduras partners, The Starbucks Foundation awarded a Global Community Impact Grant to Aldeas Infantiles SOS Honduras. The grant will help more than 150 young people in Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula build employability skills, access workforce training, and prepare for long-term economic opportunity over the next year. Starbucks partners will also have opportunities to volunteer with this nonprofit\u2019s project supporting mock job interviews, participate in employer panels, and provide career guidance and mentorship, offering practical feedback and encouragement to young people as they prepare to enter the workforce.<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n
