      The current environmental conditions of the planet demand more decisive actions in terms of sustainability. To address this, in early February,\u00a0Starbucks Mexico launched a new Waste Management Plan in select stores across Mexico City to promote the circular economy, reduce the company’s environmental impact and encourage more sustainable practices among partners (employees), customers, and communities.<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n

      The new Waste Management Plan was implemented in some Starbucks stores in the Mexican capital, with the aim of expanding this initiative to all stores in Mexico City by 2025, to amplify the positive environmental impact and encourage best practices of the circular economy.<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n

      The Plan focuses on effective and responsible management of waste generated in the company’s daily operations. First, a waste separation system was implemented in three categories: inorganic, organic, and compostable. To facilitate separation, new furniture specifically designed for this function was installed.<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n

      Subsequently, a waste traceability system was established, one of the most innovative aspects of the Plan. This measure will allow Starbucks Mexico to monitor and manage waste more efficiently to ensure proper disposal and reduce environmental impact.<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n

      The initiative also includes training to raise awareness among partners and customers about correctly separating waste for better management and final disposal or, where appropriate, proper recycling and reintegration into the value chain.<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n

      “The objective of this initiative is not only to implement more sustainable practices in our daily operations but also to raise awareness and motivate our communities to be active participants in this change. We want every visit to our stores to be an opportunity to contribute to a greener future because the planet demands it,” emphasized Francisco Tosso, General Manager of Starbucks in Mexico.<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n

      The waste management plan integrates Starbucks “For=Here-Ware” program, which promotes using reusable cups and dishes within the stores. This measure aims to reduce the generation of disposable waste, foster more responsible consumption habits, and contribute to consolidating the circular economy.<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n

      Additionally, Starbucks Mexico has been promoting reusable cups for years and it has already served over 10,000 beverages in this type of cup to encourage the reduction of single-use cups. The brand offers an 8-peso discount to those who request their beverage in such cups or any personal thermos when visiting their favorite store.<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n

      Moreover, the new Waste Management Plan extends the positive effect beyond the organization, prioritizing that all its suppliers practice sustainability and use compostable materials in their products, thus promoting a greener, more sustainable value chain with less environmental impact.<\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n

      \u201cWe are convinced that sustainability is a shared responsibility. Therefore, we work hand in hand with our suppliers to ensure that every product we offer aligns with our environmental values,\u201d added Francisco Tosso.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/body>\n\n

      This new waste management policy reaffirms Starbucks Mexico’s commitment to environmental protection and creating a more sustainable world for future generations. For instance, since 2022, all new Starbucks stores in the market are developed under Starbucks Greener Store framework. This means they must meet 25 standards in eight areas of environmental impact, such as energy efficiency, water management, and waste diversion.<\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
