Fundación Iguales is a Chilean nonprofit organization that promotes respect for human rights. Through its Night for Equality event, organized by Pride Connection – an arm of Fundación Iguales focused on workplace inclusion – the organization seeks to recognize those building a more inclusive community in Chile. South Cone - The season that celebrates being together and moments of joy with loved ones concluded with more than 1,200 gifts delivered by Starbucks South Cone to 60 nonprofit organizations across Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay, thanks to a community support campaign driven by Starbucks South Cone partners (employees) and customers.

The initiative, which was focused on sharing magic and special moments with the community, invited Starbucks customers in the Southern Cone to donate gifts to different nonprofit organizations. To incentivize customer support, Starbucks offered a free Tall-size Coffee of the Day to everyone who participated in this initiative, which took place in the first weeks of December 2022.

After gathering more than 1,200 gifts, the Starbucks Community Leaders made the official delivery to the organizations supported. 

“At Starbucks we are thrilled with the results we saw while continuing collaborating with the communities where we operate. We want to thank our partners and customers for their support of this important holiday campaign. Sharing smiles and good moments is part of our daily job to keep giving back to the community,” said Soledad Fantuzzi, marketing manager at Starbucks Southern Cone.

Within the framework of Pink Month and through the end of October, Starbucks Argentina &amp; Chile will donate a percentage of profits from sales of select pink-colored beverages to nonprofit organizations dedicated to breast cancer awareness.

Buenos Aires, Argentina – Starbucks, operated by licensed retail operator Alsea in Argentina and Chile, today announced beverage promotions across over 270 stores in the two markets in support of nonprofit organizations dedicated to fighting breast cancer. The promotions will run from October 18 to 31, 2022, to align with Pink Month, a global effort to raise awareness of breast cancer.

Breast cancer is a cancer that forms in the cells of the breast and most frequently affects women. With early detection, breast cancer treatment can be highly effective.

Starbucks Chile will donate a percentage of profits from sales of its pink-colored Strawberry Creme Frappuccino® and Strawberry Acai Refresher beverages to Fundación Arturo López Pérez (FALP), a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting breast cancer and granting timely access to vulnerable families through a highly-specialized cancer center. FALP is currently promoting an awareness campaign emphasizing that self-examination is not enough for breast cancer detection and encouraging women to have regular mammograms. According to studies by FALP, mammography cannot be replaced by any other procedure, being the most effective screening test for early detection of breast cancer after 40 years of age. To spread this important message, Starbucks Chile will carry out awareness talks throughout the month of October, sharing mammogram and early detection messages with partners (employees) and customers.

Starbucks Argentina will donate a percentage of profits from sales of its Ultra Strawberry Frappuccino® Blended Beverage to Fundación para la Investigación, Docencia y Prevención del Cáncer (FUCA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing cancer mortality based on teaching, research and prevention. Aligned with FUCA’s “Viví en Rosa” (Live in Pink) October breast cancer awareness campaign, Starbucks donation will be used for scientific research, medical education and breast cancer prevention initiatives. As part of the campaign, Starbucks Argentina will also turn its famous cup sleeves pink in order to promote FUCA’s film "De Vuelta a la Vida" (Back to Life). This documentary – conceptualized by oncologist Fernando Petracci and in collaboration with Alexander Fleming Institute (IAF), FUCA and Benteveo Producciones – narrates the journey of 30 recovered breast cancer patients accompanied by their doctors to the Valley of Tears, the place where the tragedy of the Andes occurred in 1972. For the ninth consecutive year, Starbucks South Cone joins the worldwide coffee celebration and reaffirms its commitment to sustainability.

A story of coffee farms and sustainable practices will be told through an interactive art installation displayed across select Starbucks stores in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay.

When purchasing a reusable cup or bringing in a personal cup to Starbucks stores on International Coffee Day (October 1), customers can receive a free coffee of the day in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay.

Santiago, Chile - One of the most anticipated days for coffee lovers is International Coffee Day – a celebration of the magic and origin that each enjoyed cup of coffee represents. On October 1, Starbucks South Cone celebrates International Coffee Day by showcasing the process of coffee’s development through an interactive artistic installation that will be displayed at select stores across Chile, Argentina and Uruguay.

The installation will be available in 12 stores: five in Argentina (Nordelta, Malabia, Alto Avellanda, Viamonte, and Abasto), five in Chile (Rosario Norte, La Reina, Bandera, Patio Bellavista and Estación Central) and two in Uruguay (Arocena and Punta del Este​). Each store will feature a unique mural and showcase a different coffee development stage, accompanied by a QR link that invites visitors to immerse themselves in Starbucks coffee culture and learn about the brand's sustainable practices and commitments. This activation will also include a GIF that joins the 12 murals and the stages of growth of a coffee plant together at a fast speed.

"This International Coffee Day initiative, staged across our three South Cone markets, brings us joy because we believe that it is extremely important to understand the growth stages of coffee and Starbucks sustainable practices – from bean to cup – to enhance our community’s appreciation of coffee," said Claudia Aburto, director of Starbucks South Cone. To continue the celebration of International Coffee Day, Starbucks customers in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay who purchase a reusable cup or bring in their own cup on October 1 will receive a free coffee of the day. Additionally, all Starbucks Rewards members in Chile and Argentina who use their reusable cup will receive 5 bonus stars.

“We’ve observed that there is an increasing number of coffee lovers and feel that this special occasion – a day to honor coffee and promote its sustainable future – should be celebrated in a big way. That is why we are pairing this artistic experience with a reusable cup promotion across all of our stores in South Cone. Santiago, Chile – Starbucks – operated by licensee Alsea in Chile, Argentina and Uruguay (the “South Cone” region) – announced a brand activation to celebrate the fifth season premiere of the Netflix’s hit series Cobra Kai. For this special activation, an All Valley beverage tournament will be staged between Cobra Kai Dojo, represented by Starbucks coffee beverages, and Miyagi-Do Dojo, represented by Starbucks tea beverages.

The tournament – which sees a daily “battle” of coffee vs. tea pairings with the winner decided by the highest sales between the two beverages – will be held from September 9 to 12 across the South Cone region. The first round will be Flat White vs. Green Lemon Tea and then the classic Americano will face Mint Citrus. But it doesn’t stop there, an epic battle between Latte Macchiato and English Breakfast will follow, ending with Espresso Doppio vs the beloved Chai Tea Latte. To support one’s favorite beverage in the tournament, all customers need to do is order it on the day of its “battle.”

The semifinals will be held on September 13 and 14, with the beverages in this stage being the best-selling from the day of their respective battle. The winning beverage from the tournament will have an exclusive 2-for-1 promotion from September 16 to 18 in South Cone.

When it comes to chocolate in Latin America, Mexico knows best. A most customary beverage in the country is the chocolate caliente or hot chocolate. However, it’s not just any type of chocolate but a special local kind that’s prepared with sugar and cinnamon.

Although the customary recipe calls for the chocolate to be stirred into boiling water until foamy, at any Starbucks store in Mexico you can make it creamier and frothier with any milk of your choice.

1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Mexico City, Mexico

Back in 2002, Mexico City welcomed the first Starbucks store of Latin America. Today, with over 750 stores across the market, this cosmopolitan metropolis is also home to our first Reserve Bar in the region, where customers can find Starbucks premium coffee line, buy exclusive products and try out alternative coffee methods.

The store’s design highlights unique materials from different parts of Mexico, as well as lovely murals created by Edgar Saner depicting the market’s own coffee traditions. &nbsp;

2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Dorado, Puerto Rico

Little-known fact: the Dorado Express store is our <a href="https://historias.starbucks.com/en-es/press/2021/starbucks-opens-first-drive-thru-only-store-in-puerto-rico/">first ever Starbucks Drive-Thru Only location in the Caribbean</a>. Rightfully so, as Puerto Rico has a strong coffee tradition that calls for a Starbucks Experience that brings convenience, connection and, of course, personalization.

The store is located on the northern coast of Puerto Rico and its modern and practical design is both welcoming and uplifting.

3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Santiago, Chile

Within the modern Las Condes neighborhood, known for its chic hotels and lively dining scene, you can find our <a href="https://historias.starbucks.com/es/press/2022/la-primera-greener-store-de-starbucks-en-america-latina-es-certificada-en-chile/">first-ever Greener Store in Latin America and the Caribbean</a>.

The store was designed to use 50% less water and produce 20% less carbon to help us reach our global sustainability goals.

The interior design is also environmentally friendly as the furniture and finishes are made out of recycled materials, a trend that we’ve seen in <a href="https://historias.starbucks.com/es/stories/2021/starbucks-chile-sostenibilidad/">other Chilean stores</a>.

Starbucks first entered Chile in 2003 with Isidoro Goyenechea store in Santiago. Since then, we’ve expanded to over 140 stores and the market has been a <a href="https://historias.starbucks.com/en-es/press/2022/starbucks-chile-celebrates-earth-day-with-discounts-to-promote-reusables-and-more-sustainable-options/">leader in sustainability</a>, offering EV chargers for customers, launching a program to manage in-store food waste, and continuing to expand its plant-based menu.

The capsule-like design of this store is ideal for those seeking refuge from busy everyday life. The subtle details, such as the pink penny tile that pays tribute to colorful Bahamian design, the gold decals on the walls and the large dark glass mirror creates an airy ambiance of added depth.

The glass walls surrounding the impressive building located inside the Jardín Plaza mall, lets visitors enjoy their favorite beverages while also appreciating the nearby gardens.

Cali was the third city Starbucks entered in Colombia. The company now operates stores across five cities, with the most recent opening in the vibrant coastal hub of <a href="https://historias.starbucks.com/en-es/press/2022/starbucks-opens-first-cafe-in-cartagena-colombia/">Cartagena</a>.

It has been restored to its colonial style, preserving the original wood and hand-made cement tile floors and showcasing the beauty of the original architectural style.

Our team worked very closely with local artist Adolfo Torrico to develop a proposal that was relevant and appropriate for such a unique site. Inspired by the natural environment, culture, and traditions of local coffee farms, the mural celebrates the origin and heritage of Bolivian coffee.

Santiago, Chile – In an effort to encourage civic engagement, Alsea – licensed retail operator of Starbucks in Chile – today announced the return of Starbucks Votes – a campaign where a free short-size Coffee of the Day will be offered to community members who confirm they have voted or are on their way to vote in Chile’s constitutional plebiscite. The Starbucks Votes initiative, first launched in Chile in 2017, aims to promote the participation of green apron partners (employees), customers and communities in Chile’s electoral process.

“With our Starbucks Votes campaign, we celebrate citizenship commitment by inviting our community to fulfill their civic duty in the upcoming plebiscite. Santiago, Chile – Starbucks, in partnership with local business operator Alsea, today announced the certification of its first Greener Store in Latin America and the Caribbean at Paseo Los Dominicos in Santiago, Chile. <a href="https://stories.starbucks.com/stories/2021/starbucks-greener-stores-accelerate-global-movement-towards-a-more-sustainable-future/">Announced last year,</a> the international expansion of Starbucks open-source Greener Store Framework accelerates the transformation of retail towards lower-impact stores that support the company’s goal to reduce carbon emissions, water usage, and waste sent to landfills by 50% by 2030.

“Our work to be a more sustainable company begins in our stores and with our partners, whose energy and passion for sustainability push us to do more every day,” said Michael Kobori, Starbucks chief sustainability officer.&nbsp; “The expansion of our Greener Store standards internationally enables even more customers to join us on our journey. I’m proud of our green apron partners in Chile and the innovative ways they’re adapting existing stores to the Greener Store Framework to help us reduce our environmental impact and accelerate the global movement towards a more sustainable future.”

The Los Dominicos store has been designed to meet the framework’s performance-based standards that incorporate design and extend throughout the life of a store, including a water reuse system and low-consumption toilets and taps that cut water usage by 50%.

To reduce the amount of energy needed to power the store, artificial intelligence adjusts the lighting and air conditioning based on natural lighting and temperature, with estimated energy savings of nearly 20%. The store also offers recycling areas for waste produced in-store and furniture and finishes made with recycled content.

Store openings in the northern port city mark the brand’s 13th city entry in Chile; underscores Starbucks commitment to job creation and growth in the market.

Santiago, Chile – Starbucks today announced the expansion of its coffee experience to Antofagasta – Chile’s third-largest city and a significant port and service hub for the northern region. As part of its continued growth plans in the market, Alsea, Starbucks operating licensee in Chile, will open two new stores, located in Antofagasta’s Parque Angamos and Paseo La Portada districts.

Starbucks stores are designed to enhance human connection made over a cup of coffee and to reflect the communities they serve. The two new Antofagasta cafés feature designs inspired by the port city’s mining history and proximity to the Atacama Desert. The cafés will provide a warm and welcoming experience for customers to enjoy high-quality arabica coffee from Latin America and around the world, handcrafted by passionate baristas.

“We are delighted to bring the Starbucks Experience to customers in Antofagasta, expanding our footprint into northern Chile for the first time. Our store designers have created a space that highlights the beauty of this historical mining location and the moments of connection that so many of our customers enjoy,” said Soledad Fantuzzi, Starbucks Southern Cone Marketing Manager.

Offerings at the two Antofagasta cafes will include classic Starbucks menu items, such as the signature Caramel Frappuccino® Blended Beverage, flavored Lattes, and an extensive selection of sandwiches and sweet treats.

Since Starbucks arrived in Chile in 2014 with its first store in Santiago, the brand remains committed to its Chilean customers. With the new café openings, Starbucks Chile boasts over 145 stores in the market, with more than 2,000 Starbucks Chile partners (employees) proudly wearing the green apron nationwide.

“Growing within the Chilean market is a priority for Starbucks, and we plan to open more stores in the coming years, with a shared commitment to create local employment opportunities and provide a unique customer experience. Santiago, Chile – Customers visiting Starbucks stores in Chile can save on their orders this Earth Day by embracing more sustainable choices. Today, Starbucks Chile announces a series of promotions to reinforce the company’s aspiration to becoming a resource positive company starting with its bold goals to reduce waste sent to landfills from stores and direct operations and reducing carbon emissions by half by 2030.

Starting April 22, customers will receive a $500 pesos discount, an $200 pesos increase on what is currently offered, when ordering any drink and bringing their own reusable cup at every store in Chile. Around the world, Starbucks is shifting away from single-use plastics, promoting reusability and championing the use of recycled content, driven by a broader shift towards a circular economy. 

Additionally, to mark the installation of Starbucks Chile’s first electric vehicle charger at the Prince of Wales store in Santiago on April 20 customers who arrive in an electric vehicle when visiting any drive-thru store in Chile will also receive a 20% discount on their beverages.

“We are proud to install our first electric charger in the parking lot of one of our busiest stores,” said Soledad Fantuzzi, Marketing Manager at Starbucks South Cone. “We want to continue encouraging our customers with infrastructure to promote the use of more sustainable means of transportation, such as electric vehicles.”

In addition, Starbucks continues to expand its plant-based menu in the market by offering more food and beverage alternatives, including new oatmeal milk and two sandwiches: Irresistible Panini and Irresistible American Breakfast, two new plant-based options.

Furthermore, since 2021, Starbucks Chile has partnered with GoodMeal, a local technology company that seeks to reduce food waste, CO2 emissions, and prevent food from going to waste. To date, more than 115 Starbucks Chile stores are featured on the GoodMeal app and since January 2022, both companies have worked together to save more than 15 tons of CO2 emissions by rescuing food from going to waste.

“With these Earth Day initiatives and as we look ahead, we feel a heightened sense of urgency and conviction that we must challenge ourselves, think bigger, and do more in collaboration with our partners (employees) and customers to take care of the planet we share,” added Fantuzzi.
